These terms apply to your use of this website and to the services offered by ALX Jewellers Ltd (company no. 11648547), 16 Electric Parade, George Lane, South Woodford, London E18 2LY ("ALX Jewellers", "we", "us"). By using this website or our services, you agree to these terms. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

1. Valuations and estimates

• The scrap metal calculator and rates shown on this website provide estimates only, based on live or recent market spot prices and typical scrap payout rates. They are not a binding offer.
• Precious metal prices change constantly. The rate applied to your transaction is the rate confirmed by us at the time we make you a firm offer, not the rate shown when you used the calculator.
• All valuations are subject to our physical inspection, weighing and testing of your items. Weights taken on home scales are indicative only; our calibrated workshop scales are used for the final offer.
• Valuations are free and carry no obligation to sell.

2. Selling items to us

• By offering items for sale, you confirm that you are the legal owner, that you are aged 18 or over, and that the items are free of any third-party claims or finance.
• We may ask to see and record photographic identification before purchasing items, and we cooperate fully with the police in relation to suspected stolen property.
• Once you accept our offer and payment has been made, ownership of the items passes to us and the sale is final.
• If you decline our offer, your items will be returned to you — in person, or by insured post for items sent to us.
• Testing and misdescribed items. All items are tested for authenticity and purity before purchase. Hallmarks, stamps and markings are not accepted as conclusive proof of metal content. Where an item is found to be plated, filled, hollow-filled, counterfeit, or otherwise not the precious metal it was described as, we will make no offer for that item (or a revised offer reflecting its true content, at our discretion).
• Suspected fraud. Knowingly submitting counterfeit items, items bearing forged or transposed hallmarks, or items misrepresented as precious metal is a criminal offence. We reserve the right to report suspected fraud to the police and to retain items and sender details as evidence where we are required or entitled to do so by law.

3. Postal valuations

• Items sent to us by post remain your responsibility until they are signed for at our premises. We strongly recommend Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed or an equivalent tracked and insured service, with insurance appropriate to the value of the contents.
• We will contact you when your parcel arrives and before any testing that could mark or alter your items.
• If you decline our offer, we will return your items by insured post to the address you provide. We are not responsible for losses arising from incorrect address details supplied by you.
• We reserve the right to refuse any parcel or return any items at our discretion.
• Where posted items are found on testing to be counterfeit or not the precious metal described, return postage is at the sender's cost, and we may require payment of that cost before dispatching the return. Items reasonably suspected to be connected with fraud or other criminal activity may be passed to the police rather than returned.

4. Repairs and bespoke commissions

• Repair quotes are provided before work begins. If we discover additional work is needed once a job is underway, we will contact you before proceeding.
• Estimated completion times are given in good faith but are not guaranteed, particularly where parts or stones must be sourced.
• Items left for repair must be collected within a reasonable time. Items uncollected after six months may be treated in accordance with the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977, following written notice to you.
• Bespoke commissions require a deposit before work begins. Because commissioned pieces are made to your specification, deposits and completed commissions are non-refundable except where the piece is faulty or not as agreed.

5. Purchases from our store

• All jewellery is described in good faith. Vintage and pre-owned pieces are sold as seen with any age-related wear described or shown at the point of sale.
• Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply to all purchases: items must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose.
• Hallmarking of precious metal items complies with the Hallmarking Act 1973.

6. Website content and rates

• Metal rates displayed on this site are drawn from third-party market data feeds and are provided in good faith for general information. We do not guarantee their accuracy, completeness or availability, and they do not constitute financial advice.
• All content on this website is owned by or licensed to ALX Jewellers Ltd and may not be reproduced without permission.

7. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any liability that cannot be excluded by law. Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of items in the post before they are signed for at our premises.

8. General

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the remainder continues in force. We may update these terms from time to time; the current version will always be published on this page.
